hi

a completely silly question about burning the cd.
it concerns the new release 10.10.

when burning the cd, should i unzip the rar file first and then burn the extracted files or simply burn the zipped file as it is ?

thanks in advance for you help.

Ummmm... You shouldn't have a .rar file, you should have a .iso file, which you burn to a disk. (using an appropriate application - e.g. brasero in ubuntu)

Did you download Ubuntu from anywhere besides http://www.ubuntu.com? If you get the download from there, you should get the file in a .ISO format. If you're using Windows Vista or 7, if you right-click the .ISO file and click "Write to disk", you should be golden.

There's a chance it's an .iso file already and since you have WinRAR installed, WinRAR has associated itself with the file and changed the icon.

You can unhide extensions by opening a random folder, tapping ALT to get the file menu, going to tools > folder options, view tab, then uncheck "hide extensions for known file types."

If you're running XP, ImgBurn is a decent "free" (but not open source) image burner.
