im buying a new computer, which will primarily be used to produce music in a home-recording type setting, and i need some help here.
First, i need a good OS for this purpose... I know most people here will recomend ubuntu stright off the bat, but i have experience with aardour under ubuntu, and it is NOT pretty. Also, gentoo is out of the question due to my new, super slow internet connection. So i was thinking BSD of some sort, but im open to suggestions. I know i can do this thout windows, so dont try to convince me otherwise...
Also, if anyone here has any experience with home recording, can you pretty much sum up what i need to get, and how much its going to run me? Im expecting having to buy a mixing board, some microphones, i already have amps and that kind of stuff.... also, does processor speed/ram have much to do with it in this setting? do i need a supercomputer?
Thank you, ill post up more questions on this matter, as i get them, and im sorry im such a nood at this.
