Are there potential compatibility problems if a KDE program is installed and run under Gnome in the standard Ubuntu Desktop 10.10?
If two programs with the same functions are available, is it better to select the Gnome version?

should be fine running kde apps under gnome..
but they will pull in a lot of dependancies.....

you will have a larger overhead running 2 sets of libs gtk + Qt, you'll use slightly more ram...

I run both at the same time on a netbook... so its not that big a deal....

hope it helps

I tried Dolphin in Gnome and it worked , but the theme did not match the GTK theme unless that has changed recently.

Thanks guys for the quick replies. I guess it boils down to finding the best program and keeping my fingers crossed if it's a KDE package.
