Clicky (http://www.morningwoodapartments.com/downloads/mayscreenshot1.png)

I have since stopped using XGL and compiz, my wife and I use the same computer and XGL doesn't seem to work with multiple sessions, plus for some reason firefox windows would randomly be hidden when launched.. where I would have to close them and re-open them to make them useable... strange...

Not that bad, "Hjem" or "Hjemmefolder" would sound worse in my opinion.

"Maskine" is a bit strange but what should it be called otherwise, "Datamat"? What does the English label say (I presume that's what you use)?

"Datamat".. hah -- nah, perhaps "Computer", like the English one.

Though I'd go for "Hjem" on "Hjemmemappe".

There seems to be a double standard when it comes to Men posting women in bikinis but women get railed if they post men in swim suits. I believe in equality for women and they should not be afraid to show their "sexy male" desktops.

I am going to counter this by posting one for the ladies. They should feel free to be able to have the same rights and liberties to show men as sex objects as we do women. As much as this picture disgust me, here is one for the ladies.

Ladies, feel free to post your semi nude male desktops in the future. Us men should not be the only ones allowed to do this.

Hey mcduck, that's excellent work. Forget I said anything about metacity.

Out this way, I've got this monster machine - it was a gift from a large recognizable corporation for some stuff I did - with a couple P4s, heatsink taller than the Eiffel Tower, all the RAM a guy could want or need for the next 7 years, flat-duo silent fans, 2 smokin' ATA drives, one rippin' SATA drive, any optics I want...and a 4mb onboard ATI card. I may be stuck with metacity for awhile, at least until I can justify the purchase of a video card I don't really need.

Desktop Environment: Fluxbox
Theme: Twice, with Courier 9 as font
Icons: iDesk and iDesktool (with transparency, Opera's icon is highlighted so you can see the difference)
System monitor: Torsmo
Filer: PCManFM (which replaced Rox-Filer, that I was using before)
Volume Knob: volume.app
Wallpaper: "Dark Tower", by John Howe (LoTR)

It's downright snappy, very responsive, takes less than 5 seconds to boot, and memory consumption is quite low (compared to GNOME and KDE).

here's the thread in which it was discussed - http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=144234

i just noticed that they have a patched version of dillo 8.6. the new version of dillo is still based on GTK, not FLTK, so you may want to stick with one of the 8.5 versions.

From what I was able to see I do have a libglib version installed, so what am I doing wrong here? :|

EDIT : I made a sugestion at Idea pool (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IdeaPool) in Hardware Detection and Handling ŧ General about , so users would be told that a optimized kernel would be better , anyone who liked the tip about the right kernel should show their support and that way help others users to have a better use of their hardware :KS

My screen resolution is 1600x1200 and when I take a screenshot it saves in .png format and is about 1.4 MB in size, but the upload limit is ~975 KB.

I have seen these before - they are supposed to be useful for people who come from an area that uses turkish toilets (parts of Asia) the signs were needed to prevent people from standing on the toilet - Turkish toilets require you to stand over them (essentially a hole in the floor)

I never noticed a difference between the standard and optimised kernels, to be honest. I don't doubt there's a measurable one, but if it doesn't lead to performance increases you can actually feel in everyday use it isn't all that important to use the 'right' kernel, I think.

And just to stay on topic :

sure. Here's one way to convert them easily to smaller jpg files.

First, you need to install Imagemagick:

Open terminal and run 'sudo apt-get install imagemagick'

Now, take a screenshot with 'Prt Scrn'-button (or 'Take Screenshot' from gnome's menu), save it to desktop and now you have a file called Screenshot.png sitting on your desktop. Open a terminal and run this command:

'convert ~/Desktop/Screenshot*.png -quality 86 ~/Desktop/Screenshot.jpg'

..and you'll get jpg image on your desktop, same resolution but smaller file size. :)

You can also save that command to a text file (something like ~/.screenshots2jpg.sh), then make the file executable and make a shortcut for it in your panel.. then you only have to click a button in your panel, and all screenshots on your desktop would be converted to jpg files..

in addition to imagemagick, you could always open the file in gimp, go to image, scale image, save as a .jpg.

Here's mine for this month (also posted in the gallery!)

That is my take on Xubuntu Dapper 64 bit. I removed the greater majority of the panels, and left one with a clock and the system tray - it has Quod Libet playing in the background. I am using the Rhapsody IRC client there, and if you look closely, you will see that there are drop shadows behind the terminal windows. I am using the 'Glass' xfwm theme. I altered my terminal setup so it did the green screen thing.

I think the "content may offend" warning refers to the screenshot that uses a "Sit, don't stand, on the toilet" poster as wallpaper.Actually I posted that after the title was edited.

The title edit was made for the time being while the staff are discussing guidelines for content in these threads--a topic brought on by varying amounts of skin being shown and whether we want these to be a part of a forum that really exists for technical support (and that we want to remain accessible to business people, families, safe for work and school and so on).

Being the rabblerousing muckraker that I sometimes can be I put my picture in the mix just to add to the conversation (and because I thought it was funny).

Mainly the borders because I like a flat border on the title bar and the gradient just a little bit.

I wish I could get something like this http://download.m0k.org/transmission/images/Transmission-200602111757.png , the gradient includes the toolbar not just the menubar but I don't know how to do it :P

I can see that alot of you have some panel that you have made transparent (just like OS X's dock). Which panel is it and how did you do that?

bvc
May 7th, 2006, 09:43 PM
That's impossible with gtk because it doesn't know when to use what gradient. In other words, the menubar and toolbar would each need 2 gradients. One each for when the menubar and toolbar are shown, and one each for when just the menubar, or just the toolbar is shown. Gtk would have to know about this and show the correct gradient. Would be nice!

AI, nope..that's a gtk devel/api job!. Not a hack job for me.

The PlatinUm theme, if I remember right, is a good example of why it doesn't work as I explained above, but I only used it for a few minutes and deleted it. Looks great as long as you have a meubar and toolbar present, but what happens when the menubar is removed and the toolbar is against the titlebar? Is it smooth? How could it be without 2 images. To be honest it has been 3 or 4 gnome/gtk versions since I've looked at this situation.

I have yet to change it for May. Mostly modded stuff - the window border is a modded Vista-Gray, the gtk theme is a modded Glossy-P and modded GT4 hybrid, custom "start menu", had to change sunbird icon to get a ROYGBIV rainbow thing going on on the bottom. Need XGL to work (stopped after an update in April) and a proper modification of my gtk theme to get a custom panel would be nice, nothing seems to work though :-({|=

Potatoes and tomatoes are nightshades, and are ofcourse edible. Only the fruits and tubers of the tomatoe and the potatoe are edible, by the way.
To my knowledge all other nightshades are highly toxic, as far as I'm aware.

Have you heard of the pomatoe by the way? It's a plant which has the fruits of a tomatoe and the tubers of a potatoe. It never gained any popularity because it was very difgicult to harvest.

when we got there, this guy was sitting way on the other side of his area, looking the other way, so we sat on the edge of the window, facing the other way too. a minute later, he came up behind us, banging on the glass (they don't like to be ignored). then, he sat down and pretended he was being cool. gorillas rock.

Drop shadows were pretty hard to see on a dark background, so I made shadows white, with zero offset to place them directly under windows..

Using a dark wallpaper and white GTK-theme looks cool too, like if the windows were so bright that they radiate light..

No actually I am using 300 megs of RAM out of 1 Gig. That is not much more than running Ubby with gdeskets. (250 megs for ubby.) The main reason I put XP back on is that I have a few games I miss playing and trying to play them in wine just is not the same. Dapper is still my main operating system and if I had to make a choice between the two, XP would be out the window.

Yo, everybody. My previous screenshot was moved because it was not appropriate. I apologise for this.

Since then, I have applied new themes and removed the wallpaper, and my desktop looks entirely different.
