I have an old Compaq M700 laptop on which I had previously installed Ubuntu 9. I upgraded to 10.10 but can no longer see menus or panel. I tried to reinstall but the PC will no longer boot from CD ROM. I have been able to drop to the terminal, login, and mount the cd. I can see all of the distro. The question is can I reinstall from this point and how?

Many thanks

Ron

try to check if the hardware is compatible to run maverick. may be thats causing the problem to get u to gui.

if you can get into terminal enter 'sudo gdm'

Many thanks,
I discovered that the install CD was improperly formatted. Slowed down the burn rate to 12 and everything worked great. CD burning instructions are great!
