Hi, I want to install ubuntu and windows, I heard that there is a problem with dual-boot and its better first to install windows (sp2) and then linux - open my eyes with this one. I must ask 1 more thing...I have 1 harddrive and 2 partitions now, other patition is full of my important files for university, music and other stuff i collected for many years, which sayed there after many windows reinstalation(only c: is being formated)...My question is how to install ubuntu and save data in first place(d:)

Back up your D: drive data first, unless you are ready to take chances.

Maybe you should boot from the LiveCD and just "Try" it before installing it?, you could use the Gparted program to examine your hard drive and make sure you are comfortable before actually installing......????

Im using ubuntu over a year on virtual mashine, so i think it should be fine.
And im only not sure where to store ubuntu, and how it will affect (i will back up data) other partition, i supose that i will have option to choose how much space i could use for ubuntu, and where and how in windows it would be displayed - probably on d: or some unpatitioned space...
Im so confused and have many questions, little time and limited words to explain and ask about it.

P.S. I more thing...I downloaded ubuntu 10.10 and burned to disk...Is it "live cd" (and what is live cd) or i must like install it on other disc?!? (in my logic disc should be dvd/cd r-w or what):) im noob:)
Thank for help and tips...

You can boot your computer using the LiveCD, it will give you a menu:

1. Try Ubuntu
2. Install Ubuntu

Set BIOS to boot from CD, and give it a try.
