alright, well yeah you probably have.

have you ever seen two, right next to each other? maybe some have, maybe some havent.

have you ever seen two, that after restarting them...the BSOD is burned into the monitor? probably not.

thats the scene i walked into this afternoon going to my on-campus internship lab. someone left two monitors on, something got messed up, so they have been BSOD'ed for days -- at least two days. i took a picture since i thought it was funny to see two BSODs next to each other, but then i logged in and have a nice message burned right into the screen. oh, and these are 24 inch dell widescreen height adjustable swiveling monitors by the way which are pretty expensive. we use them vertically, so they are more like a tallscreen, but the BSOD is burned right into the screen.

I'm sorry to laugh... But it's really kind of funny. Gotta love windows.

This is called LCD image persistence. A google search yields that dell lcds are especially prone to it. Some people seem to have made permanent burn in on an lcd but i don't believe it. I bet that after a few days running a colorful screensaver the screens would be back to normal. I have had LCDs and CRTs showing bluescreens for well over 2 days with no burn-in.

thats possible, i havent looked into it though. i was in there working for about 4 hours and it didnt go away, but as you said that might not be enough time.

im graduating in a few days so im not completely worried about it, especially since it wasnt me that did it and the project was over a few days ago. ill have our lab manager to do some fishing around for that stuff you talked about jason.

That's pretty funny. I haven't seen the BSOD for a long-*** time, until my mom brought home a laptop for me to fix up from work. I opened it up and lo and behold the blue screen of death had come up. It took me a good five minutes to stop laughing.

The best BSOD ever:

Windows 98 crashes during Gates' Comdex demo
http://www.cnn.com/TECH/computing/9804/20/gates.comdex/

Has some mov's linked, they play fine in VLC.

Enjoy :)

XP SP2. i couldnt tell you anything further than that, if there is anything to know further than that.

Did you take a photo of the burn-in? You should tell some Windows-loving friends the same story, except DON'T mention the part about the computers being left on for 2 days :-)

i couldnt get a photo of the burn-in since i only had my phone with me, and the camera on that couldnt make the burnt image out. i have been told by one person that the burnt-in BSOD is already gone, so jason might be right.

Honestly I've never experience a BSOD in XP on both my computer and laptop. As for screen burn the computers at my uni's computer lab have the novell user prompt to press Ctrl+Alt+Del burn on almost all the monitors.

It's an option. The default, instead of BSOD'ing, will make the computer reboot.

Yeah, I know about that, and i've never had that happen to me either??? :-k

Maybe i'm just lucky? Or Windows XP Pro SP2 may actually be solid as a rock if you know what your doing........ ;)

(I'm still enjoying learning about Linux/Ubuntu though :p )

To fix a burn in on an lcd you have to keep the screen completely white for a few hours, believe me, it's been tested and it works. Hope this helps.

Acctually I've had quite a few bsod's when I use windows xp ](*,)

Lucky, I suppose.
I've seen it a couple of times, and then there are the occasions I didn't see it because it wasn't selected as an option.

When my old videocard b0rked, my computer started to reboot several times in a row until it managed to load the drivers. It's usually hardware related like this.

I've had several programs cause the BSOD, too- the MIDI-image demo did that, and some graphics program I forgot the name of (mainly because it got deleted before you could say "causing kernel panics? Moi?")

So yes, XP can BSOD like the rest of them.

My favorite BSOD was a pic taken in Las Vegas of some casino's big sign on The Strip. I think it was the MGM. Anyway, big old honking BSOD where they normally advertise the shows, or thier crappy 6:5 blackjack rules.
