I am trying to install Ubuntu 10.10 from live DVD and getting this strange problem. I have already done a good search in the internet, and found similar issues, but nothing exactly like what I'm having.

When I start my computer, I actually get a "dark" screen, not a black one. It appears, barely readable, 3 options (which I can only read when I select and highlight then):
Try Ubuntu without installing
Install ubuntu
check system for defects

If I choose any of them, then I get a complete black screen and must reset. I have Windows 7 already installed and plan to do a dual boot. The live DVD is read without problems on windows, which makes me think it is related to some sort of driver problem.

Hi and welcome to the forums :-)

1. what graphics card do you have installed?

2. how many primary partitions do you have in Windows?

3. how much RAM do you have?

Thanks. Well, in fact I tried installing Ubuntu 10.04 with a pendrive and it worked flawlessly :D
I'm typing in a desktop while Ubuntu is being installed in my notebook.

But, if these may be useful to anyone:
1. I have a Geforce 425M.
2. One partition for each OS, and another for general data.
3. 4 Giga.
