When I try to install flash I get this error:

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

So I assume by "you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem." I have to type it into terminal. However it then asks for my password and I am unable to type it in.

Or am I doing the completely wrong thing?

In terminal when you type in password you will see nothing. just type it in and press enter. SECURITY!
