I am trying to get my second desktop (both hardwired to router) up and running with a Ubuntu 10.1. Samba does my 768 cable internet at full speed, it serves movies at full speed, but trying to download shared movies to linux machine is only at 14 Kb/sec!!!!!!!! Too slow to watch a movie over network. 30 minutes of my heavily compressed (300kps h.264) would take near 3 hours to transfer.

This was causing polling to fail too, so it was unable to tell what computers were sharing on network.

No luck googling.

I just tested downloading to this slow (desktop#2) Ubuntu from laptop Ubuntu, I am getting an acceptable 1.5 MB/sec. From desktop #1 XP only 15 kb/sec. But this desktop #1 xp serves the Ubuntu laptop at 1.5 MB/sec. Thus problem shouldn't be hardware, but kernel/conf based.
