will my software will remain intact after upgrading?

What software do you mean? When you upgrade it's not just the kernel that is upgraded. You will get updated apps where appropriate as well, plus libs and other system files.

If you are wondering if your saved downloads, documents, etc. will remain in tact, yes they will IF SUCCESSFUL. Many people upgrade and have it fail at some point. If that happens you'll be forced to try to retrieve your file from an unuseable system. Best bet is to save a copy of your /home files and see how it goes.
