Unable to upgrate to Ubuntu 10.10 from Lucid 10.4

Hi all, I am following the steps marked here https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MaverickUpgrades to upgrade ubuntu, everything looks ok until it comes to calculating the upgrade.

I get this error:

Could not calculate the upgrade

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade:
E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.

This can be caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

If none of this applies, then please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bug report.

Anyone can help?

Question is why would you want to? 10.04 is LTS which means it will still be supported long after 10.10 is forgotten. No new features to speak of.

I got the same error and for me the solution was to run this:

sudo apt-get purge xserver-xorg-video-nouveauas recommended at the bottom of this page:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/614993

Question is why would you want to? 10.04 is LTS which means it will still be supported long after 10.10 is forgotten. No new features to speak of.

One reason would be because you can only upgrade one version at a time; cannot go from 10.04 to 11.04.

Another reason is: "Because it's there":p

I have no idea why, but the purge work-arround works, I'm upgrading now.
