The instructions for creating a dual-boot system are vague and out of date.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WindowsDualBoot
The page even reads:
•Choose the First Option (It should be something like: "Resize IDE1 master, partition #1 (hda1) and use freed space").
[my italics]
Which does NOT have the clarity such an important step demands. I'm setting up a clean dual-boot system. I have installed XP and specified that XP should use half the HDD. When I get to the installation screen from the Ubuntu 'live'CD it seems to show the XP partition as the target and NOT the free space. The advanced options simply lead to yet more potential confusion.
I have simply clicked 'forward' and am hoping for the best...
... well it worked. But I still think it is UGLY.
