Hey guys. I have an HP mini 1115NR. I bought it with Windows XP only because I could not not find one with Ubuntu in the stores. Well, after having it for 2 years it's gotten buggy, as I figured it would and it's really in need of being formatted. I know I will have to reinstall the OS, but I was hoping that since I will have to go through all that trouble, well that I could install Ubuntu instead.

Is this a possibility? And does anybody have the time to give me a step by step of how to do this? Since it's a netbook, it has no optical drive, but I am on my boyfriend's mac and I also have an external hd that I could use to do this.

I would really appreciate the help!

Could you create a Live USB?

Scroll down through these graphic HowTo's:

Hi Jillie,

You can install Ubuntu from a pendrive if you have one? As you still have Windows installed you might find the tools at http://www.pendrivelinux.com easiest to use to create a LiveUSB instead of a LiveCD/DVD.

http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/

You'll need a USB pendrive with adequate storage for the .iso image you download, the .iso image itself and the Universal USB installer I've linked above.

Once you've created the USB it's just a matter of booting from it and choosing to install, rather than to try out Ubuntu.

CAUTION: Make sure you've backed up everything you want to keep before you do the install, once it's gone it's very hard to recover from!

Hope that helps,
