Hey mates..

Can I bother you all for a little help?

I am trying to install Ubuntu (10.10) on an "Everex" machine that currently has *cough* windows vista on it.

To be honest..
Ive only heard of an "everex" machine once or twice in passing..
But have never seen, or used one.

So I know next to nothing about them.

A friend just brought his laptop, and desktop tower over..
I cleaned and removed all problems from the laptop... (windows 7)
and installed Ubuntu on a separate partition, all went great,
as usual.

Now Im sitting here with the "Everex tower"..
And I cannot get it to read the disc..
I also get no changes when I change the boot order, to boot from CD ROM.

It just continues to start up normally, into vista.

Is there something "special" I need to do with this machine to get it to ~recognize the disc/~boot from the disc/~install ubuntu?

Vista is bad enough as it is..
But it is really bad here on this machine.

The plan is to completely remove vista, and turn it into a straight Ubuntu machine..

I am just having no luck with it.
Not sure what else to do, or try.

If any other info is needed, I will do my best to provide..
Im just not sure what that would be.

I havent run into this problem yet..
after doing *at least* 30+ Ubuntu installs.

ANyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

hmm,
Perhaps I have "spoken too soon"..

I just decided to give a try with an Ubuntu 10.04 disc I had,
and it seems to have recognized it..
I will attempt to boot from it and see what happens..

Suppose I can mark this as "solved".

The 10.04 disc works fine,
boots from the disc, everything..

But, the 10.10 disc, (even after I burned a new one)..
is being recognized as a "blank disc"..

New 10,10 disc, it says it's "blank"..
Older 10.10 disc.. not even recognized...

Older 10.04 disc.. works perfect.

I dunno what the deal is with that...
But I can just upgrade to 10.10 through 10.04, So no biggy, really.

Just wish i knew what was "soo different" about the 10.10 discs?

Thanks anyway. :)

Just wanted to note that Ubuntu 10.04 is installed on said machine~
and it runs beautifully! :D

(So beautiful, in fact....That I ended up buying it from him instead of giving it back!) haha :P

Sweet,
Now I have a Lucid install/box again, along with my 10.10 box <3
(got 1 more GB of RAM than my 10.10 box to) =2 GB.

<Man I love Ubuntu! <3

........ Was just looking, and it seems the company sells machines with Ubuntu based OS's already. Nice. lol
