View Full Version : [ubuntu] Ubuntu on stick - have to unplug USB each time I reboot

Hardware: MSI U100 netbook.
Ubuntu: 10.10

I downloaded the ISO and the Universal USB Installer.
I ran the installer and installed Ubuntu on the USB, including 100 MB for Persistence, which works nicely for remembering my settings like WiFi, screen resolution, etc; at least I'm assuming that's what does it because I'm just guessing from the word 'persistence'.
Ubuntu booted up from the USB stick first go, so far so good.

The problem is the I cannot do a restart, which goes to the Windows XP startup menu.
I have to do a shutdown, remove the USB and then reinsert it, then restart in order to boot to the USB.
If I don't unplug the USB and plug it in again, the machine boots to the Windows startup menu.

While unplugging the USB works every time, it would be nice if everything worked as it should.
Does anyone have an answer for this?
