While I was upgrading from Lucid Lynx to Maverick Meerkat, my computer froze and it was impossible to continue the installation, so I had to restart it.

Of course, I tried to re-continue the installation using the Update Manager and I got this message: Software index is broken

It is impossible to install or remove any software. Please use the package manager "Synaptic" or run "sudo apt-get install -f" in a terminal to fix this issue at first.

When I tried to use the Synaptic package manager: E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

Then, I tried to manually run "sudo dpkg --configure -a" on the terminal, it said that "dpkg: parse error, in file '/var/lib/dpkg/updates/0070' near line 0:
EOF after field name `' "

I really don't know what to do. I couldn't even install the Adobe Flash Player.

I would be very grateful if someone could help me.
