Ubuntu Software Center (broken?)

Hi Guys!
Couple days ago I was installing some new software through Ubuntu Software Center, however while the packages were being downloaded onto my computer it (the comptuer) suddenly shutdown. Since that time I cannot install anything through Ubuntu Software Center nor update my system through Update manager. For example I can open Software Center and click to install a package but it does not start downloading nor installing it. However everything seems to work through apt-get install. I already tried dpkg --configure -a it quits right away so I guess this is also broken.

Is there anyway that I can fix my system or do I have to reinstall everything? Any help would be appreciated. I'm using xubuntu 10.10.

What does this do:


sudo apt-get -f install

Okay run


sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

Post back any errors.

I looked through it and I don't any errors, however I'm a newb :) Everything seem to work just fine from the terminal (except for dpkg --configure -a) however Software Center and Update Manager won't work.

Ok, this time I started software center from the terminal using sudo command (sudo software-center) and now it works! It's still strange because before I was able to just go and start it from the menu and it was working without root privileges. Anyway thank you for help! I will probably need more help in future so I'm glad that I found this forum.
