I use tabs very frequently in FireFox and Chromium and I use the Crtl+W shortcut frequently to close tabs.

I am wondering if there is a way that I can tell FireFox and/or Chromium to recognize F7 as Ctrl+W or tell Ubuntu to send Ctrl+W to the program when I press F7.

I am running 64 bit Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop edition in the gnome environment. I don't know a whole lot about Ubuntu or Linux systems or any other operating systems for that matter but I am learning slowly.

I find I want to do this frequently with different things so I expect it will be very useful.

Thanks for your help.
