Not quite sure what could be wrong here. The settings are enabled, but none of the compiz functions are working. The were working on Friday.

I did some searching but I'm not even sure what the problem is, or how to diagnose it.
I'm running 10.10, now.. any help is appreciated. Even if you just tell me what I need to be searching for to find a solution.

Thanks!

What video card/chip is installed?
What driver are you (usually) running?
How did you install those?

Check what driver is currently in use:

lshw -class video
Check if direct rendering/hardware acceleration is enabled:

sudo apt-get install mesa-utils
glxinfo |grep rendering

The output you posted was from the installation process of the tool. Run the second line (beginning with "glxinfo") and post that here.

Before you do, though, try this. (http://wiki.compiz.org/Hardware/Blacklist)

compiz SKIP_CHECKS=yes

:lolflag: I though it was odd..

Ran the compiz skip check...

compiz (core) - Error: Screen 0 on display ":0.0" already has a window manager; try using the --replace option to replace the current window manager.
compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0

thats what I ended up with...
So am I using the wrong window manager?? Seems like an easy fix, but what window manager.

Did you try to install Compiz manually or by script?

It looks like you are good to go but that Compiz error indicates some kind of an interference. Specifically the replacement of the current window manager - Compiz should do that by default.

What's the output of

sudo updatedb && locate bin/compiz
as well as

compiz --replace

What Copper Bezel actually want you to try is:

SKIP_CHECKS=yes compiz --replace
instead of just:

compiz --replace

Everything is working as it used to now..

Any ideas why?

See the website, also provided by Copper Bezel:
http://wiki.compiz.org/Hardware/Blacklist

Though your video chip isn't listed in that "blacklist".

Try setting those option as default:

You can also store this value, where it is depends on your distribution, usually it is a matter of putting

SKIP_CHECKS=yes

in ~/.config/compiz/compiz-manager .

It would have been detected by compiz-check, if blacklisted hardware is in use.

As far as I know, compiz-manager is deprecated in Maverick, so setting the SKIP_CHECKS variable has no effect whatsoever.

@shwndzzl: actually, I am curious too. As I said, the compiz binary should utilize the --replace option by default.
What happens when running

metacity --replace & sleep 3 && compiz

How about taking care of this one now!?

What video card/chip is installed?
What driver are you (usually) running?
How did you install those?

I've checked what drivers you can use. For your "legacy" ATI card the best available driver is the Open Source Edge driver:
http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu_Lucid_Installation_Guide#Installing_Open_So urce_Edge_Drivers

If you're not already running those, try uprading to it:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

Yeah, sorry about that - God, and it was right in the page I linked with everything else. I had a machine with a blacklisted card a year ago or so and had rather taken this for granted, and I only found out in another conversation a few days ago about this change.

That means Compiz is in fact running and you're good to go.
Could you please re-download Compiz-Check and run it again? I have updated it, because they seem to have changed something regarding AIGLX.

If you run

compiz --replace
compiz only runs as long the as terminal is opened.

compiz --replace &
lets you close the terminal compiz still running;however only for this session.
Again, put it in Startup Applications to get compiz after reboot.

If you run

compiz --replacecompiz only runs as long the as terminal is opened.

compiz --replace &lets you close the terminal compiz still running;however only for this session.
Again, put it in Startup Applications to get compiz after reboot.

So, I would place this command in a text file and put that file in the start up apps?

No.In the top panel
System>Settings>Startup Applications
hit "add"
name: what you want...
command: compiz --replace

I don't know if that is true for Compiz, but at least for any other apps it isn't, it just brings you to a command prompt after issuing the command, but when you close the terminal, the app also gets killed. Use "setsid" instead, as prefix, like that:

setsid compiz --replace

Your Xorg.0.log looks fine to me, except for the apparent attempt to load the "fglrx" driver.
Check with the following command if any packages of those are installed:

dpkg -l|grep fglrx
Or did you install it manually one time? If so, did you follow the removal instructions?

As for your .xsession-errors, there are some errors messages in the middle of the log under [debug log]. There seem to be some launchers of apps in "Startup Applications" which have been removed since.

Does that mean you have tried already and it does not work?
or
it does work?
If so,please mark thread as solved (threadtools)...

I just want to confirm if I'm right. So these codes made Compiz Fusion work with firegl v5725? I saw somewhere else say that the 3D effects don't work since firegl is not 3D capable? Is that true?

I'm just a bit confused and am a n00b.
