Hi there.
I have been using Ubuntu for a few years now.
Although I am not experienced I am happy following instruction to get results.
I have recently aquired a server box which is happily running Ubunto 10.10.
As this is intended to be a server mainly, I wish to do away with mouse, screen, keyboard etc.

I have ssh access fine with command line available
I have nx client (no machines) running with no problems from a xp machine
i have tight vnc running ok from xp

It seems there is no problem with me connecting remotely. The problem I have come across is logging in.

I do not wish to apply auto login
I can only start a session with nx (nomackhine) and log out when the sesison is closed.

What I want to achieve is to be able to log the server in, and for it to stay logged in using remote access.

so simply put I want to access the Ubuntu log in screen remotely and for the session to stay logged in after I close the xp client.

I know generally servers are meant to be left on but I would rather turn my ubuntu system off when i'm not around and to simpy log it in from an external system with no keyboard, screen etc needed.

I have tried a few searches but I can't seem to come up with suitable search terms

Any help appreciated if this makes any sense

Regards

Andy
