Today I did just simply normal update, that means all the sec updates etc what ubuntu 10.10 sugested.

But this time it made my installation unusable. All is so slow, no way to do any work with it.
Booting (separate partition) takes almost 15min, to click on the menu takes about 20-30 secs to open, click on firefox takes about 4-5 mins to open the FF.
Tried to boot to previous kernel did not help.

CPU load is premanently between 50 and 100 percent even no apps open (except the system monitor)

Scrolling in Firefox jumps, it does not scroll continuously any more.

Is there anyhing I should look for? Any known issues?
Any help?

Did you update to a new kernel? If so at the GRUB menu choose an older kernel to boot and see if that works better. Post back please.

tried to boot older kernels, but no cure.

The system is older Toshiba laptop, celeron, 1mb ram, nothing fast. But an older system with 10.04 works much faster.

The diffrence: in th eolder system, much less process of big volume ae running.

On the 10.10, I found compiz did install itself, there are 3 pythin entries in the processes running and few other 'big' once.

The major problem seems to be somewhere on the graphic side, tried to play famous card game: move of a card takes some 5 sec.

Should I unistall all parts of compiz to start with?
