Ok, so I have Ubuntu 8.10 installed, but what I want to do is overwrite it by installing XP, and then installing UbuntuStudio 10.10 to dual-boot. Would this work? Is there a better way to get the end result? Thanks in advance for any help.

Shouldn't be a problem:

Just backup any important data, install XP, then follow the guide above.

So, just to make sure, the simple act of installing XP will destroy my old Ubuntu install?

Yes, it will destroy all your data on Ubuntu. That is why Kansasnoob suggested you back it up.

Well, you'll see a list of existing partitions and free space and you can then choose to delete each partition and then create a new NTFS partition for XP. Then follow that guide I posted to install Ubuntu.

NOTE: After installing Windows, if you choose the "Install alongside other OS's" option in the Ubuntu 10.10 installer look at this:

As it says there:

Trust me here! If you choose either "Use entire partition" or "Use entire disc" you are not likely to end up with "Alongside" anything! You will most likely lose the OS and any data contained therein!

Lots and lots of XP installation guides:
