Installing new applets

Hi
when I install new applets (ie. netspeed and timer-applet through synaptic) they do not appear in the "Add to panel..." listing.

Any ideas? Is there a manual way to add them?

Check the "Applications" menu for them, maybe in "Accessories" and "Internet".
This is the case i.e. for the alarm-clock-applet which I have running.
