Hi,

I am having some problems with empathy's tray icon. In my Ubuntu 10.10 installation, it has no tray icon at all when empathy is running, whereas in my Ubuntu 10.04 box, the icon is there but clicking it no longer minimize.

Thanks for any help in advance.

A lot of apps are moving their tray icons from the Notification Area Applet to the Indicator Applet.

Do you have the indicator applet displayed on one of your panels?

I don't use empathy much, but I seem to remember in recent versions that in order to access it from the tray, you have to click on the icon that looks like an envelope. So assuming you have the indicator applet on your panel, try left-clicking on the envelope and see what happens.

And if you think this seems counter-intuitive, I'm with you 100%.

The enveloppe sign... indeed, it took me ages to understand this, I was wondering how to minimize empathy to tray, I never thought of the enveloppe sign, thank you for helping pointing this out... it is definitively counter intuitive and not very user-friendly...
