View Full Version : [ubuntu] ubuntu-docs damaged - no new installations possible

I tried to install the Sun Java browser plugin (because my browser was responding terribly slow at sites that used Java), so I followed the steps in post 6 of this thread:

http://www.uluga.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=10387148

During the installation process I got this fatal error:

files list file for package 'ubuntu-docs' is missing final newline
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)

I tried to remove and reinstall ubuntu-docs like it's mentioned here (post 2):

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=728806

but the problem keeps sticking around returning the same fatal error
over and over again with each purge or install command.

How can I solve this?

Is it maybe possible to move ubuntu-docs to a temp folder or delete it
manually and then reinstall it afterwards? If so, where do I find that
packages or those files on my hard disc? A global disc search didn't
return any results.
