installed and have these horzontal bars across my screen how do i fix this

well everytime i boot up and get to the log in screen there are these horizontal bars across my screen how do i fix this? Is it my graphjcs card or something because i got an older hp pavilion laptop thats about 4 years old and is there a way to get these bars off my screen so i can see my laptop more clear?

I know it's obvious, but did you go to additional drivers? It might find something that will work better.

ok i looked up somethings online and it tells me to type commands in my terminal and when i do it says it cant find anything any other ideas? im getting tired of looking at these bars

The black bars are at the top and bottom?

Sounds like widescreen mode.

Change your screen resolution or aspect ratio.
