Opening programs in a window (LXDE, lubuntu)

Im curious about how to make a program open in a window, much like the -w command you can put in a launcher under gnome. Alternatively if someone could guide me on how to install gnome in lubuntu i could just give that a try too..

You can install gnome in lubuntu with
sudo apt-get install gnome or if you prefer the full ubuntu system equivalent
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
I don't quite understand what you mean by the other part of your query -w command so perhaps you can give more detail of what you want, and what sort of window.
