Hi,

When I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my pc, I noticed that it required a little more graphics then 9.10. After I logged in, I only see the Ubuntu background, but with nothing else. I really want to use Ubuntu on my computer but it just wont load properly after a full install. Can anyone help?

So there are no top/bottom panels? No Menu's top left?
Have you tried rebooting?

Nothing. Its just a blank background, No panels or icons.

Have you tried rebooting? Is it just the same?

Same problem even if I reboot. Sometimes I notice I get in but sometimes I'm just stuck at the blank background again.

When you got in did you install any graphics drivers - via System > Admin > Additional Drivers?

Yes, that may help... normally does for me. But then again, it could screw stuff up worse...

May I ask what kind of computer you have? Also, have you tried 10.10? I think they have some graphic updates... not sure.

There weren't any graphics drivers available for my computer, Though I think its a graphics related problem.

Umm... what type of graphics card do you have? This is strange.

I'm not sure what graphics card I have. I just have an old computer that I'm trying to revive with Ubuntu. I haven't tried 10.10 yet because I think I might have the same problem.

Ah... 10.04 should run on pretty much anything, but if it's really old (like 95 era), perhaps try Xubuntu? http://xubuntu.org/

Super lightweight Ubuntu for old machines. I have it running on my relative's super old desktop, with no problems, super fast, and watching YouTube videos. Definitely recommended.

I also recommend CrunchBang (based on Ubuntu), which is even more lightweight than Xubuntu.

Ok cool.

CrunchBang is probably your best option. If Ubuntu won't run.
