My knowledge of the different Ubuntu distribution is lacking. What I'm looking for is a mostly server (apache, glassfish, sendmail, mysql, wiki, wordpress, imap....) with login desktop accounts (I'm a gnome fan but kde is OK too).

My limited knowledge/experience says it is slightly better to install the desktop version of Meerkat and add the servers I want than to install the server version and install the Window managers and utilities. Please comment.

To get to my question, I have only one real problem with the setup. If I do something that requires authorization like add a user, run system update either the authorization screen does not come up or the program crashes. I prefer VNC but Nx behaves the same. Everything works as expected from the console.

Has anyone else seen this? Any suggestions.
