Which version of Ubuntu are you using? Grub legacy or grub2? If you're using grub2, have you tried running
sudo update-grub ?

Welcome to the forums! A tool called startupmanager may help you, it is aimed toward newer users...
You can install it on Ubuntu via apt...
sudo apt-get install startupmanager
That should do it. It has some useful tools in it.
Hope that helps!
