I'm currently working on a clone of the Windows app "Freedom" which will kill your Internet connection for a given amount of time (so you can work without being tempted by it). Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this in the most efficient and secure way? It is important that the connection will work again if the user reboots his/her machine (in case of an "emergency" or a crash.) I've been thinking about encrypting a config file (but what if the app crashes?) or by killing nm-applet and wicd (but this will fool only newbies)...

Any other suggestions?
