Hello,

Over two years later my Galaxy Note broke and so I took out my handy Viliv S5. After a little hacking to get the older touch patches working on 12.10 I can say that 12.10 works, although hideously slow on the Viliv S5. While I'm grateful that there is an open source GMA500 graphics driver, gma500_gfx, the poor video performance is a testament to how critical the hardware side of development is. If a company, in this case Intel, only half supports work then the project is for most purposes DOA, unless there is an incredible interest by the community - for instance the nouveau project for nVidea.

Still it was a nice exercise and I figured I would share it with everyone on here just to reiterate my belief that there are in fact some devices that can (or at least in a practical nature) never be supported by the open source community and that from this perspective it is important in what - that is device - one puts one's time into. At best the Viliv S5 is a big clumsy iPod - not pad, when it still has enough power to run everything I use for my computing needs, obviously I'm not a serious gamer :). Have a great weekend.
