I don't understand the purpose of installing wubi. Wouldn't it be better to just to make a partition and install the full version?

Wubi is for people who want to try Ubuntu but may be worried about the idea of partitioning and messing it up (like I was).
Having used Wubi and deciding that I wanted to use Ubuntu I read up on dual booting, partitioning and backing-up everything before starting.

Now dual booting happily and distro hopping. But wouldn't have got this far if I'd not had Wubi and mintInstall to try first.

Wubi, like anything else, has its drawbacks.

But, as Megaptera mentioned, it is a great way to try out another operating system without worrying about how to do this and that.
