new kubuntu install logins into black screen

Hi everyone trying to get Kubuntu 10.10 to work. Installed and boots perfectly fine but when i login it gives me a black screen and my monitor goes into power saving mode.

Any know why that would happen - Ubuntu works perfectly fine :(
