I am not sure this is the riht place to ask this. But I have a client that wants to migrate from windows XP to Ubuntu there are 10 computers in the office . What do companies charge to migrate from windows to XP to Ubuntu.

IS it charged by computer
Per Hour
etc

We just would like to have something to work with when potential vendors approach us to give us there price.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated

Ubuntu is totally free... all they need to do is to pay 1 man to install it on all the computers that is is they cannot do it by theirselves, else this is what they can do by themselves allso.

Biggest problem for a company usually is that workers arent qualified to use any kind of Linux (and Ubuntu is one of them).

Ubuntu is and will always be free.
Just pay the technician who will install it.

Are you sure that you need to hire people to do it?

If all 10 machines are of same kind, you could try installing on one of them and see if you need help. Chances are good that you just install and run, and if you have a question, you know where to ask!

Since it is a large installation I would go for 10.04 Long Term Support rather than 10.10.

After Ubuntu is installed, using Open Office and the like is stragihtforward.
