Hi Everybody.

I am a fairly avid online poker player. Mainly micro-stakes.

I dual boot between win7 and Ubuntu 10.04. Until today I have always just played poker in Windows as it appeared easier.. but this morning I took some time and got both Full Tilt and PokerStars working with wine.

They both work flawlessly for me and with launchers now on my panel it is just as easy as playing in Windows.

So I am wondering how many of us Ubuntu users that also enjoy real money poker are out there? If there is enough of us maybe we could look at starting a group?

I figure a means of networking with other Ubuntu players could be fun. General discussion of the game and stragey, plus helping each other with any wine related issues could be a bonus. If there is enough of us we could even set up some private tourneys.

So if you may be interested.. please respond on this thread. Maybe also indicate if you play on Full Tilt, PokerStars or both.

Of course any other comments/suggestions would be awesome.

Just a note: Don't know the current situation but when I was in High School, it was illegal to gamble over electronic communications devices in the US. Not implying that is going on here, just giving a friendly heads up :-)

This is a common misunderstanding of the situation. It is in fact NOT illegal in the US. There has simply (or not so simply) been legislation passed that makes the banking involved difficult on the poker rooms.. and by proxy the players.

Full Tilt and PokerStars both have taken measures to make the process as simple as possible for American players and have done a good job in my opinion.

It is a bit easier for non-US players like myself to get in the game.. as many other poker rooms don't allow US players for this reason, but it's a non-issue on Full Tilt and PokerStars.

I've heard that American players sometimes have delays on their cashouts compared to non-US players... but that is the only problem I am aware of for American players.

Glad you brought that up though. Thanks.

Thankfully that is one genetic weakness I managed not to be born with...

Being obsessive compulsive in some areas is a good thing I think, in others it can be incredibly destructive.

I have no idea what your talking about. But thanks for your completely off thread topic input.

Cool man. Now if I can just find a couple dozen more players we might be able to get something going!

Thanks for responding!

Same here. I find myself wondering why so many people waste their money in the casinos. But, hey, that is what funds my city, so I let them pay play.

Please find another means of rounding up players.
