Okay, so I ran across this file type and none of the programs I tried worked with it. It was ".M4V" and they were movie files. If anyone knows a program that can play them, please tell me.

.m4v is a native format for iTunes. Quicktime plays them, but very poorly. VLC will not play them.

I have a few .m4v files, and they are basically mp4 files. They have AVC video and AAC audio.

VLC, mplayer, smplayer and even Totem (with codecs) can play them. If you are still not able to play them try using mediainfo (from ppa) and post the results here.

Regards.

m4v just denotes an MP4 container containing a video stream. It can have AVC or h.264 along with various audio formats (usually AAC-LC).
