Audio problems wirth Ubuntu 10.10

I recently upgrade Ubuntu from 9.10 to 10.10 using the upgrade facility. Now find I cannot instal upgrades from upgrade manager and all the streaming audio playbacks are garbled.

Should I reinstall 10.10 from scratch or can someone help solve my problems
