Hypertorus screensaver now very slow

Running 10.10 amd64 bit desktop, and hypertorus is suddenly running very slowly, i.e. about 10% of the speed it used to.
Any suggestions as to what I should look for, or post here by way of additional information ?

I'm running online, so Firefox and Evolution are running in the background, but nothing else (that I am aware of !)

I don't thinks so, as the system is only about six months old, and this is an effect that has only just started in the last few days.
I'll have a look to see if anything us available, though.

PS It's actually quite interesting to watch at the slower speed and see the changes that are a bit too fast to follow normally - perhaps I might just keep it as it is.
:D

PPS It has also slowed to a dead stop on one occasion, and the whole system froze, so perhaps it's a symptom of something more serious developing :(

How do I identify the details of my graphics board ?
(I assume that's the same as a video card ?)
The system tool only give it as ATI Radeon RV410 (X700), but I've found several versions.
