View Full Version : [SOLVED] Noobie needs guide for server 10.10 (please)

I apologize in advance for not being able to find this information that is probably already someplace.......
I have never put together a server before and recently took an oldish desktop and installed 10.10 on it in order to act as a file and print server for the house. I just want a central repository for photos, music, etc. so it can be accessed by any one in the house. Those computers are: 2 win 7 machines and 2 ubuntu machines.

On install I only checked the file and print server options after the core was installed. I can now see the server from my win 7 laptop but cannot see any directories or transfer to the server. I need to see folders on the server basically a tree of "my documents" type where I would have the other common folders (think windows)
I need one of those step by step guides that makes the experts sigh :)
Thanks for any help you can give me in getting this thing going.

Thank you..i think it will.
P.S. when I do get it going, do you rec. "webmin" for remote management? (server is in cold basement, and it is a pain to run down there all the time to make changes)

I use Webmin on most of my servers for remote administration.
Very neat stuff :)

neo....your great. I set up the shares and can now see everything. Thanks so much.
One other thing with webmin though? I installed the latest version, but https://localhost:10000/ will not work. I am using Chrome if that makes a difference. Can you help with that as well? Feel free to email if easier.
