Can anyone suggest a "difficult to tell apart" alternative for MS Calibri.
This has now become the standard for our University, and I have had a couple of documents "rejected" using arial which was the old standard.

I would suggest making a petition against that. That is just ridiculous.
Try this: http://www.oooninja.com/2008/01/calibri-linux-vista-fonts-download.html
If they disregard you I would just type your paper in whatever format you want. Then take the paper to the computer labs and converting the font to fit the standards.

Actually, I think its reasonable enough that they have a house style that staff need to follow, but I don't really want to go through the hassle of converting documents.
But thanks for the link, some useful things there.

I understand where they are coming from on it but I don't get why they would choose such an obscure font. Arial is a easy to read font as well.
Hopefully everything gets sorted out for you.

Now that is a different question, and gets added to the long list of decisions that I struggle to understand.

Why not just install Calibri.ttf on your machine?
I know, MS has stated that you "can't" but...

Basically, because MS say you can't and I would rather find a non MS alternative.

It's legal if you buy it here: http://www.ascenderfonts.com/font/calibri-regular.aspx from the way I understand it.
Or I saw the suggestion of URW Pallido as replacement.

Thanks, I didn't realise you could buy it as easily as this, worth thinking about.

Sorry for multiple posts, the forum froze while uploading, and obviously something has gone astray,
I can't work out how to delete the extra messages, can someone tell me how.
Thanks,

I don't think you are able to delete posts. I think you can only edit them.

The icon for edit has a tool tip "edit/delete" suggesting you should be able to delete.
But I have marked the thread as solved, as effectively it is.
Thanks,

Well, actually it isn't solved, or did I miss the part where someone suggested another font that looks like Calibra?
The title says: Calibra font alternative. But there isn't any! :) Unfortunately...

Well it has a solution in that I can buy Calibri fonts for $35, so I don't really need an alternative.

Since no one has really answered this question, I thought I would.
FreeSans does a good job of mimicking the default MS Word settings (Calibri 11) at these settings:
Character/Font/FreeSans 10
Paragraph/Spacing/Below Paragraph: 0.12"
Paragraph/Line Spacing/Proportional of: 125%
Although not perfect, the average bear will not be able to tell the difference without doing a critical comparison against another document.
Although not technically as close, I am also impressed with Verdana 9 set at the same spacing as above. I'm not sure why, to my eye it does an even better job of imatiting Calibri. But either one should work.

Thanks,
That is still really useful, even with Calibri available to buy, and a better option.
Cheers,

I came accross this thread by chance...
The free and open source font Asap is very close to Calibri, much more than FreeSans or Open Sans.
http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/asap
It is a tiny bit bigger than Calibri, so just check your line spacing and font sizes.
