Which is yet another reason why using an Android device over an iOS device just makes sense:
BTW, Google Android Surpasses Apple iPhone Market Share in US. (http://goo.gl/Mz3hy)

After several months of strong growth, the number of smartphones powered by Google's Android platform surpassed the Apple iPhone in the U.S. for the three-month period ending in November 2010, a market research firm sayshttp://goo.gl/Mz3hy

Finally it is good to see Linux taking a lead! Thank You Google. :P

With the new Android 2.3 Gingerbread the Apple iPhone will only slip further down this year; of course Apple's only redeeming factor is that Verizon may step in to save them from slipping exponentially

You can get a Live CD of android: http://code.google.com/p/live-android/

Maybe this could be the year of Linux on the Desktop ;-) lol jk. Nice to see Android doing well.

Evidently, this is the year of the Linux* Smartphone. For whatever that's worth.

*Or Android, if you want to be picky about it.

Well what do you expect? It's the same reason pc's sell more than Macs. You don't have to get your Android phone from a single manufacturer.

I see this as having only a minor effect on Linux desktop. I'm convinced most people that have an Android phone don't even know where the OS comes from.

I'll take that one step further. I'm convinced that most people wouldn't even understand that their phone has something called an "operating system". In most people's eyes "operating systems" exist only on desktop/laptop computers.

Time period is a crucial factor as well.

Also, after researching that website you linked to I am not sure if "StatCounter" is a reliable source for anything beyond a pretty graph?
