I'm developing a business management program which is supposed to do a plethora of things. I am about to place a survey in this thread for anyone interested in taking it. But my first question is: (I know this is a little against the community belief, but I'm needing money to keep my site open) Is there a public license which behaves like the GPL in every aspect, except it allows the individual to keep their project closed sourced?

***EDIT: This program is going to be open sourced. :-) I've decided to charge money for companies to add themselves to the distributor database. You may access the survey at:

Actually, I'm debating on whether to make it open sourced or not. I'm building the Survey right now with Google.

As far as i know, yes it is possible to attach an licens which makes all or some of your code closed source. And copyrighted. But i dont know wich one.

And its not against the belief. Linux / Caniocle also have parts of their code, closed source.... so.

That sounds like some sort of Freeware license. Freeware can be freely distributed but can still be closed source, and will usually forbid (re)selling. something like this: http://www.sil.org/computing/catalog/freeware.html

Did you see openatps (http://www.opentaps.org)? Or you need another program?
