So there's Ubuntu Québec. That I'm thrilled, but their site indicates that you first have to submit bug reports on Launchpad and/or help in other ways to be eligible for application.
So are LoCo teams only for folks who know their ways around Ubuntu system?

You can help out by answering and helping out in the forums, Launchpad and Irc.

Check for Lug's in your area. Linux User Groups are just as fun. They don't care what distro you use.

A'ight, through Linux.org/Groups I found 2 groups in Quebec City, however one is defunct (website is a bunch of ads) and the other haven't had any news since last November. And I don't live in Montreal...

How to become a member of Ubuntu Quebec? (http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=http://www.ubuntu-qc.org/&ei=-4QmTcfzEcGB8gb9r9m2AQ&sa=X&oi=translate&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CBoQ7gEwAA&prev=/search%3Fq%3DUbuntu%2BQu%25C3%25A9bec%26hl%3Den%26 prmd%3Divns)

Bugs are just one of the things. Learn Ubuntu help out here and there (do they have their own forum?). Create a Launchpad account. Install LAMP and create a blog.....

Yeah, that's a LoCo team that requires screening and approval.
That's why I was asking for books the other day, hoping that I could learn something useful and help others.

how about using IRC and chatting a bit with them and get an idea of what the group is about, chat a bit with them about how else you can contribute.

if you have done this, disregard my post.

What is IRC? Similar to Teamspeak and Ventrilo (I knew the latter from listening to DotA).

And here is the problem with Ubuntu LoCo's...

People want to give back and be part of a community anyway they can, and yet the community requires steps to "prove" one's worth.

It's suppoed to be Linux for human beings not just IT departments.

I say you start your own local group. Make the meetings about having fun and enjoying open source computing without the need to solve bugs or programming.

Older chatroom protocol, generally used by techies.

OK! Just remembered what IRC is. Anna the Bot, right?
I think at one point I downloaded a program (Windows) but I couldn't really figure it out.
And what LowSky said was pretty much what I thought. Yeah I need to find a chance to start a local group (but it's Quebec City, what shall I expect eh).

if that was true, there wouldn't be so many questions on #ubuntu and #kubuntu :p irc used to be used mostly by techies but it's more widespread nowadays. there are still a lot of techies using it, though.

http://www.ubuntu-qc.org/xchat they have the instructions there, i still think it might be a good idea to chat a bit with the people there, maybe their requirements aren't as bad as they look in the website or maybe they have exceptions.

*generally*, but at least we usually don't have the youtube crowd on there if you know what I mean..
