Hello, Forum;

I've been experiencing something strange with my laptop.

Hardware is a 2002 Hewlett-Packard Omnibook xe4400s running Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick, up-to-date.

My problem involves graphical themes. I'm a big fan of Ambience/Radiance, but one day, it booted up with Clearlooks instead. Confused, I went into System > Preferences > Appearance to change it back to Ambience. Initially satisfied, I'd later look at my desktop to find that it did not change themes. A right-click on the Desktop or while file browsing gives the Clearlooks dropdown menu, whilst right-clicking on most things gives me the nice, black Ambience one.

This problem persisted through uninstalling and reinstalling the package, "Light themes," from synaptic; also, it recurred after a complete reinstall of Ubuntu. (specifically, after one restart and a shutdown)

Can somebody help me out? This makes my computer an insufferable eyesore.
.
Attached is a screenshot made to show that window borders are set to Ambience, Ambience is actve (not a custom theme) and icons (except on the panel) are all Clearlooks.

Also, this has only been happening for a few days.
