Hello All,

I got an Asus EePC that ran XP it was brand new, but obviously old as it was running XP.

I heard good things about Linux and was pleased to see that there was a Netbook Version that seemed perfect for what I wanted.

I made my USB disk, and trialled Ubuntu from there to see what it was like. I must say I was very impressed. So I decided that for the sake of space and what I wanted to use it for I would choose the just use Ubuntu and wipe the rest of the disk. This install worked, and it said it was successful, I then restarted the Netbook.

I was met with a black screen and a Grey blinking cursor. As it was brand new this sort of annoyed me. But I understand things go wrong. So I plugged the data stick in, which gave me the Ubuntu trial back and tried to reinstall by wiping the disk once more during the installation process. This failed half way through and has failed at the same point several times now. I can no longer boot XP as it is gone(I think) , I have no CD drive to try anythin there. I am pretty much at a loss as I've been using Mac for about 8 years now and have no advanced knowledge of PC's.

Essentially, I have a wiped hard disk with nothing but a data stick trial of ubuntu that refuses to install the full version.

Any suggestions on how I could fix, restore, make it work?

Many Thanks.

Have no fear, someone will help you figure this out! In the meantime, as I am kind of at a loss for what could be the problem, could you tell me how you installed it? Did you choose the guided/use entire disk option?

It sounds as if either the usb live version is corrupt in some way, or that grub is not installed properly, or that maybe you have met with the poulsbo graphics glitch, though that seems the least likely.

Using your live usb version, download and run the boot-info-script shown in my signature. That will help rule out a few possible problems and maybe point to answers as well.
