View Full Version : [SOLVED] My WD MyBook external HD can't connect to a Gigabyte USB 3.0 port

I am having problems connecting my external hard drive with USB 3.0 support (http://www.span.com/product_info.php?products_id=31866) to a usb 3.0 port to my Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3 Socket-1156 (http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3440) motherboard. When connected, the external hd receives power and turns on, but Ubuntu fail to find/mount it. Sometimes my other usb devices like keyboard and mouse freeze, while the system is running. Connecting the external hard drive to an usb 2.0 port works flawlessly.

Any idea why that may be so? I am using Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit with the latest updates. The usb 3.0 feature works in windows 7 on the same computer and motherboard, so the hard drive should be unquestionable. I've used Ubuntu for some years now, although I'd say I'm still a noob when it comes to things like these. :p

Please help me, thanks in advance! :D

Thanks for directing me to the other thread kwacka, I installed the 2.6.37 kernel and now my hard drive works fine through the 3.0 port :D However I encountered some problems with my themes in that new kernel, so I'll just wait for 11.04 instead, using the 2.0 port in the meantime ;)
