How about having a big sticky thread which names hardware or hardware companies that explicitly DO NOT support linux. This would not only provide bad publicity for those vendors, but also warn potential users for buying the wrong kit...

I'd prefer a list of hardware that works. What might be more practical, though is a list of sites that contain lists of hardware that is known to work.
This is more convenient, I think, for the average user who just wants to get setup right away and not have to worry about trying to *not* find something on a list.

When I was building my new system I was worried about not to buy Maxtor HD, Intel CPU and ATI videocard. :)[-(
