After updating and rebooting i now only get a

error: file not found.
error: file not found.
error: no suitable mode found.

I'm running it through wubi on a PC that also has windows 7, although I use the linux side more.

Likely you have 10.04.1. You need to check out the Wubi megathread Problem #2, Solution #1: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1639198

Once it's booting apply the Permanent Fix shown. Also, if you are using Ubuntu more than win 7 there's a link in that thread to a migration guide - to migrate Wubi to a normal install.
